WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE HANDMADE SOAP?Generally, the commercial "soaps" carried at most chain stores are loaded with chemical additives such as preservatives, sulfates and lather boosters that dry out your skin and can lead to rashes and other skin irritations.  The commercial soap bars that line most grocery stores’ shelves are actually synthetic detergents NOT real soap. While that's wonderful for your dishes, it's not very good for your skin.

WHAT IS HANDMADE SOAP?Soap is a combination of water (liquid), lye (sodium hydroxide) and oils.  When the lye solution is mixed with oils, it causes a chemical reaction called "saponification".  The result is 3 parts soap and 1 part glycerin: which is desired for it's ability to moisturize the skin.
Properly made handmade soap contains NO LYE in the end product.  You cannot make real soap without lye.

No Lye = No Soap

WHAT IS "SUPERFATTING"?Superfatting means that a certain percentage of oils have been left unconverted by the lye.  This is done by discounting the amount of lye in my recipe.  It leaves extra moisturizing oils in the soap for your skin to use along with the naturally occurring glycerin and ensures a safe, milder bar of soap.

I HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN.  IS HANDMADE SOAP SAFE TO USE?Most likely, you will be able to use my soaps because they are incredibly mild and gentle.  Most commercial soaps are detergent based, using lots of synthetic ingredients that cause skin reactions.
If you have allergies to fragrances, try my All Natural Soap line.

DO YOU TEST ON ANIMALS?

Petals products are NEVER tested on animals.  Instead, they are tested by very willing family and friends.

DO YOU USE ANIMAL PRODUCTS IN YOUR SOAP?All of Petals products  are Vegan or "Vegetarian Friendly" meaning, they are made using only vegetable oils and butters such as Shea, Cocoa and Mango.  I never use animal fats such as lard or tallow.  However, products do occasionally contain Milk, Yogurt or Honey.

HOW LONG DOES YOUR SOAP STAY FRESH?Handmade soap stays "fresh" for years.  No, it's true!   REAL handmade soap is like wine.  It gets better with age.  As the soap gets harder, it becomes longer lasting and milder.  However, over time, the soap may loose it's fragrance intensity, so it is recommended that you use within 6 months - 1 year.
NOTE - I've used a bar of Vetyver scented soap that was still quite strong after almost 3 years from when I made it!  The surface scent had faded a bit, but once the water hit it, that bar lit right up.  It was very hard and bubbly and so mild, it felt like magic on my skin.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY BAR OF SOAP LAST?Well that depends on how much mileage it gets.   If properly stored and drained between uses, you can expect a bar to last at least 2-3 weeks or longer!
To extend the life of your soap:

  • Allow to dry completely between use
  • Store on a well draining soap dish
  • Avoid leaving soap in direct spray of water
  • Never leave in standing water
  • Try using a wash cloth or shower puff instead of rubbing soap directly on the skin

WHAT IS A PRODUCT LAUNCH? A launch is essentially a product release with fragrances and products geared or themed toward a specific time of the year.  Although Petals products are available to purchase year round, I do make seasonal "limited editions" that are only available at certain times of the year.  Limited Edition products tend to sell out quickly, so please sign up for the News Letter,  join the Petals Bath Boutique Facebook Group or follow on Instagram to stay up-to-date with Petals News.

DO YOU ACCEPT WHOLESALE ORDERS OR CUSTOM SOAP REQUESTS?I do accept wholesale orders during the first half of the year. The fall and winter months, however, are the busiest time of the year for Petals, so I am not accepting wholesale orders at this time.  I currently do not create custom soap loaves, take custom request or do private labeling.  If you are interested in carrying Petals line in your store, please message me for a copy of my line-sheet.
