Take Time to Rest & Relax

As we fall back again and adjust our internal clocks as the days get shorter, we should take advantage and allow our bodies the rest that they need.  The following tips will aid in helping you wind-down for the cooler winter months ahead.

Tip 1: Shut it down – electronics that is. Before going to sleep, shut down all electronics – that means TV, tablets and, yes, your cellphone! These all are stimulants for the brain, and if you’re checking emails or keeping up with social media in bed at 10 p.m., you’re going to have a difficult time getting to sleep. Hit the power switch at least an hour before bedtime.

Tip 2: Grab your favorite handmade soap or bath time treat and take a Hot Shower or Soothing Bath. Those who bathe or shower one to two hours before bedtime also fall asleep faster. Researchers theorize that warm water stimulates blood flow to the hands and feet, which allows body heat to escape more quickly.

Tip 3: Make Your Bedroom a Better Sleep Haven. Create a relaxing bedroom space using you favorite relaxing candle, wax melt or essential oil blend.  Turn the lights down and...just breathe.

Tip 4: Have a steaming mug of herbal tea. Herbal teas are popular beverage choices when it comes time to relax and unwind. For centuries, they have been used around the world as natural sleep remedies. Modern research also backs the benefits of herbal tea aiding in a good night's sleep .

Tip 5: Read a Relaxing Book. Want to fall asleep fast? Reading a little before going to sleep can have great health benefits. Stress is one of the main reasons that you can have insomnia. Reading has been proven to help reduce stress and allow you to relax.
